Police Commission Announces Appointment of Chief of Police

Medicine Hat – After a thorough and vigorous hiring process, The Medicine Hat Police Commission is pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Alan Murphy as Police Chief of the Medicine Hat Police Service. The Police Commission felt a duty to the community to hire the best candidate available for the role, and it became clear through the recruitment process that Chief Murphy’s experience and current performance in his work made him the best candidate for the role in Medicine Hat.

Chief Murphy, Deputy Police Chief of the Edmonton Police Service, has been acting as the Interim Police Chief of the MHPS on secondment assignment from EPS since October 12, 2022. The Medicine Hat Police Commission has been impressed with Chief Murphy’s forward thinking and pro-active approach to policing and look forward to his continued work and the positive impact it will have on the service and the community of Medicine Hat.

“The future of policing in Medicine Hat is very bright with Chief Murphy at the helm.” said Medicine Hat Police Commission Chair, Ted Rodych. “The Medicine Hat Police Commission feel strongly that Chief Murphy’s skillset and approach to policing have positioned him as the ideal person for the role as Police Chief. The appointment of Alan Murphy as permanent Chief of Police is effective as of January 1, 2023
